Joining in the excitement in the township: Football on the big screen with IFOK and Masifunde
Kick-off in the township – and you can be part of it: IFOK and Masifunde are offering an exceptional football experience in Port Elizabeth. With the motto “Be part of the game!” we are showing all the World Cup games on a big screen. If you are in South Africa during the World Cup, come by and support the teams together with the young people of the township: They are organising the open-air screenings themselves, along with fringe events featuring local artists.

They will be supported by Masifunde staff. The organisation is committed to promoting education for children and youngsters in Port Elizabeth, one of the poorest regions of South Africa. The organisation was founded in 2005 by former IFOK employee Jonas Schumacher. IFOK has been involved in the work from day one by providing personnel support, donations, and PR work, and is still one of the most important sponsors. For the young people of the township, the open-air screenings are an opportunity to showcase their organisational talents. The aim is to experience sport together – and without any form of alcohol or drugs. As a customer or partner of IFOK, Jonas Schuhmacher and the youngsters will take you on an interesting tour of the township. Experience the many sides of life in Port Elizabeth from a whole new perspective. We look forward to seeing you there! You can contact Masifunde with inquiries about the “World Cup Studio” in Port Elizabeth by telephone (+49 6131 3296584) or e-mail worldcup(at)masifunde.de.
About the organisation: Students and young professionals from all over Germany work for Masifunde. For their school, university or employer, each of them has spent some time in South Africa and found out about life in the townships. The project in South Africa is financed by fundraising in the form of sponsorships, private donations, revenue from fundraising events or prize-money. In 2008, the organisation won the renowned “Marion Dönhoff Prize for International Reconciliation and Understanding”. When founding Masifunde, the volunteers were also able to win the then Federal Minister of Justice, Brigitte Zypries, as a prominent patron.
